UFC Fight Night Analysis - MMA News & Odds

May 12, 2020

After a great evening such as UFC 249, it is time to start taking up the planned schedule. In this situation, Dana White will expose two of the best light heavyweights to star UFC Fight Night, and see how the different divisions are shaped. Let’s take a closer look at the fights and their UFC Fight Night odds.

UFC Fight Night Predictions May 13: Smith vs Teixeira

Anthony ‘Lionheart’ Smith (-190) vs. Glover Teixeira (+145) – Light Heavyweight (205 lbs.)

Anthony Smith returns to the octagon almost a year after his last appearance and wants to keep beating big 205-pound contenders to aspire to challenge for the title once again. Smith has a 4-1 record in the light heavyweight division.

Among his victories are legendary names in the division such as former champions Rashad Evans and Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua, and big contenders against Volkan Oezdemir and Alexander Gustafsson.

Of those, none made it to the judges’ card, so Smith enjoys ending the night prematurely with his hand raised. In addition, two were detained by KO and two others were submissions. That speaks to Smith’s repertoire to settle his opponents.

His only loss at 205 lbs. it was when he challenged champion Jon Jones, he lost by unanimous decision. Smith wants to re-aspire to the belt, so re-accumulating a good streak of victories where stripping names of weight as Teixeira will help a lot to the case.

On the other hand, Teixeira is a veteran who is still looking for one last push towards the title. With three wins in a row, where two were submissions, Teixeira has shown that he can remain at the highest level. With 30 victories on his resume, 17 by way of chloroform and eight where his rivals had to be subjected, Teixeira has a school and an experience in the octagon that not many possess.

Ben Rothwell (+115) vs. Ovince Saint-Preux (-145) – Heavyweight

Making his debut in the top elite of the UFC, Ovince Saint-Preux will seek to revitalize his heavyweight career. OSP, as Saint-Preux is known, did not enjoy much success at the end of his 205-pound career, losing two of his last three. With 11 wins via KO and eight by submission, Saint-Preux can finish the opponent both standing and on the mat.

His strength is in kick-boxing, his combinations can be quite useful against heavyweights, which are slower and less agile when defending, so fast combos can put him in great positions to win the fight, especially against a Rothwell that usually looks heavy.

Also trained in kick-boxing, but with a style more of power than dynamism, Ben Rothwell will welcome OSP. Rothwell went on to have three consecutive losses that saw his actions fall into the heavyweight division. However, in his last fight, he knocked out Stefan Struve in the second with very heavy punches.

This battle is of key importance for both of them facing the future of their careers and the contenders they will have to face in the future by climbing the rankings.
